Because of the modern art museum that has been in a building that looks like a boathouse since 1958.Do not be fooled by appearances. This is the most interesting collection in northern Europe. Its different directors have all bequeathed their tastes and their bias to what is now an internationally renowned museum. The first, Ponthus Hultén, was a knowledgeable collector. He donated more than 700 works, including sculptures by Niki de Saint Phalle, Jean Tinguely, and Alexander Calder, which are in the garden.
The current director, Daniel Birnbaum, organised an exhibition of Picasso and Duchamp in 2012 that was one of the most buzzed-about shows in the art world.
