The great hangars of the former shipyards located on the Ile de Nantes are the scene of construction for extraordinary machinery designed by François Delarozière and Pierre Orefice.
These gigantic mechanical structures, inspired by both Leonardo da Vinci and Jules Verne, may be visited, offering a truly original artistic and playful adventure. The big elephant invites travellers passing along the quay to ride on its back. In the station you must visit the machines gallery, the bestiary of the tree of herons, and the latest addition, a sleepy spider. It embarks with four visitors in its abdomen, climbs up its web, and then moves above the public to finally rest on the ground in an amazing walk. A little further on, the Marine Worlds' carousel, a three-storey merry-go-round with 35 water creatures, animates the island between the great shipyard and the former Banana Warehouse, now home to restaurants, bars, and terraces.
