65 metres high, the new structure is attached to the older building, also designed by the same Swiss architects Herzog & de Meuron. It really launches the famous Modern Art Museum into the 21st century, at a cost of approximately 358 million EUR.
This 11-story twisted pyramid houses works by Pablo Picasso, Joseph Beuys and Mark Rothko. In total, 250 artists from 50 countries contribute, from modernism to live projects. The promise of the Tate Modern is to lend a new approach to museum spaces and give a new face to London's socio-cultural life.
New artworks and installations are on display, like the one made of human hair and car bumpers by Sheela Gowda, or the multi-screen immersive film directed by Apichatpong Weerasethakul. Cherry on the cake, the building now offers a rooftop restaurant with a terrific view on the last floor.
