Montmartre, in the artists' shoes

As a hangout for painters and writers in the 19th century, the famous Butte Montmartre is the symbol of a bohemian and romantic Paris.

In the 18th arrondissement, you will take the funicular to explore the picturesque streets of the Butte Montmartre, the small cul-de-sac and other secret locations that preserve the memory of Old Paris. On the Place du Tertre, only two steps away from the Musée de Montmartre – where you can learn everything there is to know about the painters, writers and musicians who lived in the neighbourhood – you can have your portrait painted by one of the various street artists.

Atop the hill, the Sacré-Cœur Basilica contrasts with the surrounding bohemian atmosphere. From its forecourt, you will overlook all of Paris and its region, and a souvenir photo is a must. Do not hesitate venturing to the Musée de la Vie Romantique (“Romantic Life Museum”), one of the most charming in the capital. Inside this haven of peace, located in a former hôtel particulier (townhouse) that is invisible from the street, you will feel like you have just been taken back to the 19th century.
