The setting is quite idyllic. Only five minutes by foot from the Plaza de la Independencia, the Illa Experience boutique hotel is nestled in an old Quitonian house, built in 1700. Inaugurated in December 2017, the establishment has from the get-go integrated Time Magazine's list of 100 places to visit.
Here, intimacy and splendor reign supreme. Each floor has been carefully thought out and decorated according to various eras in the country's history. The impressive solid wood doors have been donated by a nearby church. Among the stylish four rooms and six suites, you only have to pick a view: the colourful Junín street or the essential Panecillo, famous hill on top of which stands the Virgen de Quito (Quito's Madonna) statue. When comes the time for pre-dinner drinks, you will climb up the hotel's rooftop to enjoy a cocktail – in moderation of course – prepared with local fruits, while gazing at the panorama over the capital's historic neighbourhood. A truly relaxing moment.
